3 Experience Gifts for Valentine's Day

Can you believe Valentine’s Day is just around the corner? I feel like we blinked, it was Christmas, we blinked again and it’s nearing Valentine’s Day -- another big gift giving day of the year. So how is Shop Girl helping prepare our clients? By looking at one of the best Valentine’s Day gift giving trends: experiences!

According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 25% of consumers said they plan to give a gift of experience for Valentine’s Day. This means people are looking for new ideas and different gifts than the traditional jewelry and chocolate (although I still think those are perfectly suitable gifts!).

So, here are our top three experience gift ideas for your honey this upcoming Valentine’s Day.

In-home Chef/Dining Experience

Sometimes the best date night is a night in. Especially if you have kids, the idea of hiring a personal chef for a night to come in, cook a gourmet meal and clean everything up after, probably sounds like heaven. Couple this with a nice bottle of wine, and you’ve got yourself a night to remember. Ask friends and family for some connections with chefs, or use an online service like Angie’s List or if you’re local, calling Louisiana Culinary Institute is probably a good first step in booking this experience.

Walk down Memory Lane

This is a great option for anyone who has been together or married for several years. Take some time and plan a recreation of your first date, first kiss, engagement, etc., whatever night is special to you as a couple, completely recreate it. Go to the same restaurant, walk the same streets, remind each other of the reasons you fell in love. Bonus: end the night with a *new* memory and a small gift to commemorate the moment. These here, here and here I’m loving right now.

Wine/Beer/Liquor Tasting Event

Finding a tasting event in the city can be a fun find, and many restaurants offer these close to Valentine’s Day as an incentive for making your dinner reservations there. But even if you can’t find, or don’t want to go out for a tasting event, create your own at home! Visit your local wine market and ask for help selecting three different wines, beers or liquors that are good for tasting or sampling. And then do a little research to find which foods pair best with those. Set up small plates at your home and vote for your favorite combo!
